Things to Do
We are so excited to celebrate with you!
Please remember that our wedding is in July, which is the hottest time of year in Greece. For any sightseeing, especially at open-air archaeological sites, we strongly recommend starting as early in the morning as possible, staying hydrated, and taking a relaxing break during the midday heat.
THE CLASSIC ATHENS CENTER
This option is perfect for history lovers and first-time visitors who want to be in the heart of everything. By staying in central neighborhoods like Plaka, Monastiraki, or Syntagma, you'll be within walking distance of the most iconic sites in Western civilization. You can dedicate your time to exploring the magnificent Acropolis and the world-class Acropolis Museum, wandering through the ancient Agora (the birthplace of democracy), and getting lost in the charming, island-like streets of Plaka and Anafiotika. This is the quintessential Athens experience, immersing you in thousands of years of history, culture, and vibrant city life.
THE ATHENS RIVIERA (COASTAL ESCAPE)
For those who prefer a more relaxed, "beach vacation" feel, the Athens Riviera is the perfect choice. Staying in coastal suburbs like Glyfada or Vouliagmeni (about 30-45 minutes from the center) offers a glamorous seaside atmosphere. You can spend your days enjoying the sun at chic organized beaches, strolling along beautiful marinas, or visiting the stunning natural wonder of Lake Vouliagmeni, a unique thermal spa. This option is less about non-stop archaeological sites and more about enjoying the sun, sea, and sophisticated coastal energy of modern Athens.
THE EXPLORER (DAY TRIPS FROM THE CITY)
If you're using Athens as a base to explore the wider region, this path is for you. You can take a spectacular late-afternoon coastal drive down to Cape Sounio to witness one of the most famous sunsets in the world at the majestic Temple of Poseidon, perched on a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. Alternatively, you can get a taste of the Greek islands by taking a short ferry (approx. 1 hour) from the port of Piraeus to the charming island of Aegina, known for its beautiful ancient temple, pistachio groves, and relaxed port town.
